Ulta Beauty has been expanding quickly in the United States, and they appear to be ready to move up north!
Founded in Bolingbrook, Illinois by Terry Hanson and Richard E. George, Ulta has become the largest beauty retailer in the U.S. With over 1,000 stores across the nation, Ulta executives has described it to be as the “Home Depot for women”. Ulta is truly a one-stop shop as they offer various options ranging from beauty, skincare, and hair care products in addition to unique services all under one roof.
Retailers have been moving towards creating experiences for their customers and Ulta has been doing just that! They do a great job offering in-store services in partnerships with the brands that they carry such as Benefit Brow Bar, the Dermalogica Skin Bar, and The Salon at Ulta, which features Redken hair products.
The average Ulta location is 10,000 square feet and is usually found as a unit in a strip of retailers. According to unnamed sources cited in the Globe & Mail article, Ulta has contacted major Canadian landlords in search of the first storefront for this retailer. We will have to wait and see what retail strategy they will employ as they enter the Canadian market!
