Created by former SoulCycle co-founder, Julie Rice, WeMRKT is creating the opportunity for members who work at WeWork daily to sell their products that they have been working on under that roof! Now, several brands are getting the opportunity to be featured in this vast coworking community!
What is WeMRKT?
The co-working space giant has officially launched WeMRKT, a place to find products made with passion and purpose by WeWork members globally. WeMRKT is focused on highlighting and supporting the products from within the WeWork community. The inauguration took place at the 205 Hudson WeWork in Lower Manhattan. WeWork members span from freelancers to startups to innovative enterprises as they all value inspiration and collaboration. Each WeWork space is designed to foster those features to allow their members to grow their businesses or pursue their own creative projects in these major cities across the world. John Sherwin, the CEO of Hydrant, stated in an interview with Forbes that,“the opportunity to sell his products in WeMRKT has led to increased traffic to his company’s website and requests for demonstrations.” He also stated that the WeWork demographic is “exactly the demographic that he was targeting for his product!”
How do vendors get chosen?
The application process is simple, WeWork has an online application that anyone can fill out. They also host occasional in-person pitch nights in various U.S. cities with an expert panel of judges from the retail, food, and beverage world. WeWork makes sure to select a variety of products that will empower, fuel, and delight members especially through beverages, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals; office supplies, tech and useful gadgets; gifts and greeting cards, health and wellness products; and books and magazines. Some of the benefits from being picked as a vendor include being featured on signage on display, social media coverage, a spot on the next Creator Marketplace, and special pop-ups and activations. The first startups that were selected to be featured in WeMRKT were Splendid Spoon (a purveyor of healthy meal plans), Lebby Snacks (an assortment of dark chocolate and sesame honey flavored dry roasted chickpeas), and Barnana (chocolate and peanut butter flavored plantain chips). Onur Oz, the founder of Lebby Snacks, stated that,”it’s a very exciting opportunity for us. We feel this will be a great way to present our product to a larger community.”
Plans for Expansion!
As of now, WeWork has a total of 429 office locations in 80 cities and only 1 We MRKT location, but they have already announced their plans to expand WeMRKT to other WeWork locations in the coming months so stay on the lookout for a WeMRKT near you! Also, while WeWork members and visitors are the only ones who currently have access to the WeMRKT, Rice hopes to be able to serve WeWork products to non-WeWork members soon.
